2016 is the year the day received a global caption. Chapter breakfasts continued. A shared broadcast and a wider press line sat on top. From then the initials GMID, not NAMID, appear in most public notes.
Global here means a coordinated date and a stream that can take a session from more than one continent. It does not mean a single world secretariat with one ticket shop. Kenya, Mexico, Switzerland, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States and Zambia all appear in later speaker lists; those names come from organiser recaps, not from this desk.
Treat 2016 as a branding turn, not as the invention of meetings advocacy. The Canadian decades sit underneath it.
